A Note from Paul
On July 4, we shared this message on The PIO Calendar’s social media channels: “Behind every safe celebration are communicators helping keep the public informed.”
It is true. From public safety reminders and traffic updates to weather alerts and emergency information, communicators help communities celebrate safely. This year, weather-related emergency alerts were issued during multiple celebrations, including in Boston, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C. As Mark Brady would say, it was a “time to shine,” and I think PIOs across the country certainly did. I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe July 4 as we marked 250 years of the United States.
A couple of Weekly Digests ago, I mentioned that I am working on a jobs network within The PIO Calendar. It is taking a little longer than expected, but that is intentional. I do not want it to be just another jobs board. I want it to be something useful for PIOs and communicators as they navigate their careers.
June was also our busiest month yet. Since launching on February 3, 2026, The PIO Calendar has continued to grow, and June became a true milestone month with 2,036 unique visitors, 3,924 page views, 60 new events added in a single week, and Google Search becoming our top referral source. You can read more below.
This week’s digest also includes a new 🆓 marker to help make free training opportunities easier to find.
Right now, The PIO Calendar features 286 upcoming events, including 34 new events added this week across the U.S. and 8 additional countries.
Have a great week, and I hope you find your next professional development opportunity on The PIO Calendar.
