Weekly PIO Calendar Digest: October 5, 2026

A Note from Paul

Last week, we announced the launch of The PIO Calendar Bookshelf—a space where PIOs and communicators can easily discover relevant, timely books.

We launched with four titles, and I’m grateful to the authors who helped us get started. In just a short time, the Bookshelf has grown to 13 books thanks to your recommendations, submissions, and reviews. The response has been tremendous, and it’s clear this is a resource our community has been looking for. Please keep recommending and submitting books!

There is also plenty happening across The PIO Calendar, with more than 300 upcoming events currently listed.

One opportunity I particularly want to highlight is an upcoming VeriLocal.AI Lunch & Learn Demo. Every PIO knows how difficult it can be to find real-time, local social media posts during a critical incident. Our feeds are often overwhelmed by noise from hundreds—or even thousands—of miles away. Developed through research at the University of Colorado, VeriLocal offers a way to identify timely, relevant, and truly local social media content. It can help communicators find real photos, comments, and videos from the affected area, providing a clearer understanding of what is happening and how a situation is affecting the community.

Neither The PIO Calendar nor I am being compensated to promote VeriLocal or this event. I’m sharing it because I believe it could be a genuinely valuable tool for public information professionals.

I encourage you to check it out and sign up below.
