The PIO Calendar is expanding its coverage to include O-0305 training and other advanced incident-management courses that support public information officers serving on, or preparing to join, Incident Management Teams.

Why O-0305 Training Matters for PIOs

O-0305: Type 3 All-Hazards Incident Management Team introduces participants to the activities and processes of a Type 3 All-Hazards Incident Management Team.

The course emphasizes team operations, leadership, coordination, the incident planning process and the responsibilities of Command and General Staff members during complex incidents.

Although O-0305 is not exclusively a public information course, it can be an important part of professional development for PIOs preparing to serve on an Incident Management Team. It may also be required or accepted within certain PIO qualification pathways, depending on the credentialing authority.

Looking Beyond Traditional PIO Courses

The PIO Calendar was created to make relevant training easier to find. That means looking beyond courses with “public information” in the title and recognizing the broader training PIOs need to operate effectively during complex incidents.

The Calendar will continue tracking traditional PIO courses while expanding its coverage of Incident Management Team training, position-specific courses and other advanced professional-development opportunities relevant to public information officers.
