The PIO Calendar has received a significant platform update focused on making it easier for public information officers and communicators to find training, conferences, webinars, resources and professional opportunities.
A clearer homepage
The redesigned homepage provides a more focused introduction to The PIO Calendar and organizes its growing collection of services into clear sections.
Visitors can now move more easily between:
- Upcoming events and recently added opportunities
- Online and self-paced training
- Associations and organizations
- Professional resources
- The PIO Calendar Bookshelf
- PIO Perspective
- The PIO Calendar Shop
- Opportunities available by state
The new layout reduces clutter while keeping the Calendar’s most useful tools within easy reach.
Improved opportunity discovery
Upcoming opportunities remain central to the homepage, with dedicated views for recently added, most-viewed and featured events.
The state map has also been improved. Visitors can select a state, review upcoming opportunities available there and open a filtered calendar showing events for that state.
Events that have already started are no longer included in upcoming-event listings, helping ensure those sections remain timely and relevant.
Important event updates
Canceled, postponed, rescheduled and otherwise updated events are now presented through a rotating Important Event Updates section.
Each notice includes:
- The type of update
- Event title
- Date and time
- City and state, or an indication that the event is virtual
- A direct link to the updated event listing
Visitors can pause the updates, move between notices or swipe through them on a mobile device.
The PIO Calendar by the Numbers
A new public statistics page provides a clearer picture of the Calendar’s reach and continued growth.
The page includes:
- Upcoming and total event listings
- States, the District of Columbia and countries represented
- Upcoming opportunities by type
- Website views for the current week, month and year
- All-time website views and visitors
- Organizations in the directory
- PIO resources
- Bookshelf titles
- PIO Perspective surveys
- Shop products
- Email subscribers
These statistics help demonstrate how The PIO Calendar is growing beyond an events calendar into a broader professional resource for the public information community.

The PIO Calendar Bookshelf once again highlights selected book covers and can identify relevant sales, discounts and available coupons.
The PIO Calendar Shop has also been improved to better feature selected products and active discounts. These sections are intended to help visitors quickly discover practical resources created for public information officers and communicators.
Better event information
Event pages have received several usability improvements, including clearer presentation of:
- Pricing and available price options
- Coupons and group discounts
- Member-only requirements
- Membership and access information
- Registration details
- Schedule changes
- Event analytics for authorized users
The underlying event-management process has also been strengthened to improve consistency while preserving the organization, venue and occurrence-specific information associated with each event.
Built around the public information community
The PIO Calendar continues to grow as a free-to-use, community-supported resource for public information officers, communicators, emergency managers and public-safety professionals.
This update is part of an ongoing effort to make the platform easier to use, more transparent and more valuable to the professionals it serves.
