ABOUT THE TRAINING
This interactive, skill-building session takes plain language from theory into practice. You’ll define plain language, explore its core principles—knowing your audience, being helpful, being straightforward, and using meaningful words and images—and then apply them directly to your own content.
Through guided practice, group activities, and real examples, you’ll learn how to write short sentences and paragraphs, “chunk” content with clear headings, help users complete tasks with action verbs and steps, explain unfamiliar terms, and write in a more conversational, straightforward voice. Come ready to participate and leave with practical techniques and a plan for making your content clearer and more usable.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
Know Your Audience
No one in the room is the average web user. Learn to write for the real people who use your content, not for yourself.
Chunk It, Don’t Dump It
Break content into short sentences, short paragraphs, and scannable headings so readers can find what they need fast.
Write to Help, Not to Impress
Swap jargon, acronyms, and formal language for action verbs, contractions, and plain terms your audience actually understands.
