The PIO Calendar Reaches New Milestone as Search Becomes Top Referral Source

The PIO Calendar has reached another milestone, showing the continued need for a centralized resource where public information officers and communicators can find training and professional development opportunities.

For the first time since launching, search engines have become the top source of referrals to The PIO Calendar, surpassing social media platforms that helped introduce the resource to the communications community.

The milestone follows another recent achievement: more than 500 events have been listed on The PIO Calendar since its launch in February 2026, including trainings, conferences, webinars, and networking opportunities.

From Community Sharing to Search Discovery

During the first several months, much of The PIO Calendar’s growth came from the support of public information officers, instructors, organizations, and communicators who shared events and helped spread awareness through platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook.

That community support helped build the foundation.

The shift toward search traffic represents the next phase of growth: communicators are actively looking for resources and finding The PIO Calendar when searching for training opportunities, conferences, webinars, and professional development.

Making PIO Training Easier to Find

Public information officers serve critical roles in government agencies, emergency services, nonprofit organizations, and private sector organizations. Continued training helps communicators prepare before the next incident, strengthen relationships, improve messaging, and better serve their communities.

However, finding those opportunities has not always been easy.

Courses, conferences, and webinars are often spread across many different websites, agencies, and organizations.

The PIO Calendar was created to bring those opportunities together into one searchable location.

Since launch, the calendar has grown to include:

• More than 500 total events listed
• Hundreds of upcoming professional development opportunities
• Trainings, conferences, webinars, and networking events
• Opportunities from organizations, agencies, universities, and instructors supporting communicators

More Than a Calendar

The continued growth reflects a larger mission: supporting the public information and communications profession.

In addition to event listings, The PIO Calendar continues to expand resources for communicators through features including the organization directory and contributor resources.

Each submitted event and shared resource helps strengthen the network of professionals dedicated to effective communication.

Thank you to everyone who has supported The PIO Calendar, submitted opportunities, shared resources, and helped make professional development easier to discover.
