The PIO Calendar recognizes the critical importance of clear, accurate, timely, and coordinated information in all phases of emergency management and crisis response.
We support the Emergency Management Principles of Information (POI) developed by the Emergency Management External Affairs Association (EMEAA) as a practical and values-driven framework for strengthening public information practices before, during, and after emergencies.
We acknowledge that effective crisis communication is not an auxiliary function, but a core operational capability that directly impacts life safety, public trust, and response effectiveness. The EMEAA POI provides a shared foundation for improving consistency, professionalism, and collaboration across disciplines, jurisdictions, and sectors.
Accordingly, The PIO Calendar endorses the intent and application of the EMEAA POI and encourages its integration into planning, training, and operational decision-making where appropriate. We also support continued collaboration across the emergency management and public information communities to refine and advance these principles over time.
