E/L0952 NIMS ICS All-Hazards Public Information Officer
This FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS) All-Hazards Position Specific course prepares participants to serve effectively as a Public Information Officer (PIO) on a Type III All-Hazards Incident Management Team (AHIMT).
Using lecture, discussion, and scenario-based activities, students build core PIO skills for all-hazards incidents, with emphasis on initial response. Topics include:
• information operations,
• developing a communications strategy,
• media relations (including social media), and
• working with Assistant PIOs.
The course also addresses special incident situations, PIO safety considerations (including while escorting others), and PIO responsibilities during transition and demobilization.
