• EMEAA and The PIO Calendar Announce Partnership to Support Professional Development

The Emergency Management External Affairs Association (EMEAA) and The PIO Calendar, a program of PDR Strategies, LLC, announce a new partnership focused on supporting professional development and increasing awareness of training, conferences, and educational opportunities for public information, emergency communications, and external affairs professionals.

The partnership formalizes a shared commitment to strengthening the profession by improving access to relevant training and professional development opportunities across disciplines and jurisdictions. Through this collaboration, EMEAA and The PIO Calendar work together to elevate information sharing and visibility into opportunities that support preparedness, skill development, and professional growth.

The collaboration reflects the growing need for accessible, role-specific training resources for communicators operating in increasingly complex emergency and public information environments.

“Professional development is an essential foundation for effective public information and emergency communications,” said Bob Jensen, President of EMEAA. “This partnership with The PIO Calendar helps connect our members with training and educational opportunities that support building communication excellence and broadening their experience.”

The PIO Calendar serves as a centralized, practitioner-focused platform designed to make it easier for communicators to identify and track trainings, conferences, and events relevant to public information and external affairs.

“The PIO Calendar exists to support the field by making professional development opportunities easier to find and access,” said Paul Raymond Jr., founder of The PIO Calendar and principal of PDR Strategies, LLC. “Partnering with EMEAA reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the profession through collaboration and information sharing.”

Training is only one part of the profession.

Connection, community, and shared knowledge are just as important.

These new directories help bring those pieces together.

  • Platform Update: New Event Markers Now Live

The PIO Calendar continues to evolve with features designed to improve clarity, transparency, and usability across the platform.

Two new visual markers are now live across event listings:

    👤 User Submitted Events

Events submitted directly by members of the PIO and communications community are now clearly identified with a User Submitted icon displayed next to the event title.

This marker provides added transparency while reinforcing the collaborative nature of the platform. It helps users quickly distinguish between:

    • Events submitted by training providers or organizations
    • Events submitted by community members
    • Partner Organization events

PIO Calendar is designed to serve as a centralized resource for the profession, and community submissions are a key part of that mission.

    🆕 New Events

To make it easier to spot recently added opportunities, events published within the last 14 days now display a New Event marker.

This icon automatically appears when an event is newly added and automatically expires after 14 days — no manual updates required.

This feature allows returning visitors to quickly identify:

    • Recently posted trainings
    • Newly announced conferences
    • Fresh professional development opportunities

    Designed for Clarity

These updates are part of a broader effort to create a clean, intuitive experience for communicators searching for professional development.

Visual indicators are intentionally subtle, consistent in size, and placed before the event title so they remain visible without cluttering the layout.

More refinements are underway as the platform continues to grow.

As always, if you have suggestions for improvements or additional features, you can share them directly through the site.

The PIO Calendar is built for the profession — and with the profession.
