Enhancing Your Media and Social Media Presence
The Center for Public Safety Leadership is hosting a three-day workshop focused on media relations and social media.
Facilitators include Sarah Boyd with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Captain Jake Becchina with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, and Eric Blevins, Senior Assistant City Attorney for Overland Park.
Topics will include media relations, release of information and liability, news conferences and briefings, Kansas and Missouri Sunshine Laws, officer-involved shootings, line-of-duty deaths, social media policy and strategy, misinformation, community engagement, First Amendment auditors, and more.
The workshop will also include a case study of the shooting at the Chiefs victory rally and a role-play tabletop exercise.
This would be an excellent training and networking opportunity for anyone serving in a media-facing role, whether commissioned or civilian.
