Weekly PIO Calendar Digest: August 31, 2026

A Note from Paul

There’s a lot happening at The PIO Calendar, and we’re getting very close to announcing some significant platform updates that I’ve been excited to share. Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Every visit, event submission, subscription, and recommendation helps us build a stronger resource for the PIO and communications community.

This week, we’re also beginning to highlight new Associations, Organizations, and Resources that directly support public information officers and communicators. If your association, organization, or favorite resource isn’t listed yet, I’d encourage you to add it.

One of our newest resources—and I can’t believe it wasn’t already on the site—is Empathy Cue, a card game created by fellow PIO Sarah Lux. Empathy Cue helps public information officers, fire chiefs, law enforcement leaders, and emergency managers practice responding to media questions with empathy instead of simply relying on facts and data. I own a deck myself and highly recommend taking a look.

You’ll also notice links to our updated Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy below. With several new features and platform enhancements on the way, it was the right time to update both documents.

Finally, if you’ve been looking for the E/L0952 NIMS ICS All-Hazards Public Information Officer course, now is a great time to check the calendar. It’s typically one of the hardest FEMA courses to find, but The PIO Calendar currently lists eight upcoming offerings across the country.

Have a great week!
