DESCRIPTION:This FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS) All-Hazards Position Specific course prepares participants to serve effectively as a Public Information Officer (PIO) on a Type III All-Hazards Incident Management Team (AHIMT). \nUsing lecture\, discussion\, and scenario-based activities\, students build core PIO skills for all-hazards incidents\, with emphasis on initial response. Topics include:\n• information operations\,\n• developing a communications strategy\,\n• media relations (including social media)\, and\n• working with Assistant PIOs. \nThe course also addresses special incident situations\, PIO safety considerations (including while escorting others)\, and PIO responsibilities during transition and demobilization.
