SUMMARY:FEMA E/L0388 Advanced Public Information Officer
DESCRIPTION:The National Response Framework (NRF) and the National Incident Management System (NIMS) devote significant attention to the importance of emergency public information. Public Information Officers are key members of the ICS and EOC organizations\, and work closely with officials who are part of Multiagency Coordination Groups. PIOs advise the Incident Commander\, Unified Command\, and EOC director on public information relating to incident management. \nWith public information included as a function within NIMS and within ICS\, it is critical to address and provide training for this important element of Emergency Management. \nThe National Disaster & Emergency Management University (NDEMU) Public Information Officer (PIO) training curriculum includes courses delivered at the awareness\, basic\, advanced and master levels. The basic level course was developed by NDEMU and is managed by NDEMU or state emergency management trainers who teach basic skills and techniques for use during small\, localized\, single-agency responses; preparedness campaigns; and escalating localized responses. \nThe advanced level course teaches participants additional skills for use during escalating incidents\, including strategic communications and incident action planning as it relates to Joint Information Center (JIC) operations.

SUMMARY:CPRA Conference 2026
DESCRIPTION:Reimagine\, Redefine\, Refocus: Leading a future of trusted communication.\nCommunication is at a turning point. AI is reshaping how messages are made. Public trust is fragile. Influence moves faster than regulation. The standards that built this profession are being tested in real time. \nThe CPRA Conference 2026 returns on Tuesday 17 – Wednesday 18 November\, bringing together Australia’s communicators to confront that shift head on. \nConverging on Marvel Stadium in Melbourne\, leaders and emerging talent from corporate\, government\, agency\, not-for-profit\, and university sectors will reimagine how we work with technology\, redefine what responsible influence looks like\, and refocus on the craft that earns trust. \nThis is where strategy meets responsibility. Where creative ambition is matched with professional standards. Where the people who advise power and shape reputation come together to set the direction for our field. \nThe future of trusted communication isn’t waiting. It’s being written by those who show up.

SUMMARY:NCA2026 | 112th Annual Convention
DESCRIPTION:The 112th Annual Convention in New Orleans will explore move/ment(s) in the field of Communication. Movement is the defining feature of humans in the 21st century. We are a species on the move – as migrants\, tourists\, refugees\, workers\, asylees\, and students. Movement brings flux\, assumes risk\, implies intermixing\, and sows the seeds for “both/and” thinking. Move/ment is full of interpretive possibilities for scholars\, teachers\, and practitioners of Communication. \nAs we gather in New Orleans\, which is marked by epochal movements of people\, capital\, goods\, ideas\, and culture\, we will reflect on the various avatars of movement. Movement is also inherent to the celebratory fervor of Second Lining\, the quintessential New Orleans form of communal celebration. The sobering legacies of Hurricane Katrina and the mass displacement in its wake also offer a reckoning for how we move and can be moved away/for/into places and spaces.
